Tom McGuigan

Tom McGuigan began his career as a wilderness ranger for the National Park Service and held positions with conservation agencies, including the National Audubon Society and The Nature Conservancy.

He transitioned to the investment advisory business in 1993. Although these two professions appear to be worlds apart, he notes many of the principles in conservation — diversification, balance and long-term perspective — are the same principles in financial planning. After spending the first 12 years of his investment career with a large, national financial planning company, Tom was attracted to the independence, creativity and client-centered philosophy embodied by Exencial Wealth Advisors.

Tom has written for the Lyme Times, where his Money Matters column addressed personal finance, investment and business issues. National publications, such as The Wall Street Journal, InvestmentNews and The Journal of Financial Planning have featured his expertise and research.

Tom graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1980 and earned the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) designation in 1997. He and his wife, Pam, enjoy the Connecticut shoreline, and he can often be found kayaking, bicycling, bird-watching, or fly-fishing in the local area.
