2018 Review and 2019 Market Outlook

February 1, 2019

Thank you to all who participated in Exencial’s first teleconference of 2019. These webinars are part of our commitment to keeping clients updated on the key market and economic factors driving our investment decisions.

In this session, Chief Investment Officer Tim Courtney discussed how the trade dispute with China and the U.S. government shutdown have contributed to recent market volatility. He also explained how, in the unlikely event of a recession in 2019, much of the price and earnings decline is likely already factored into markets. Lastly, he highlighted the positive economic indicators we continue to see in the market today: consumer household strength continues into 2019, wage growth has accelerated and consumer confidence and spending remain high.

Additionally, Senior Analyst/SELECT portfolio manager Rich Erwin discussed the advantages of owning individual stocks and examined the characteristics Exencial looks for when selecting companies to include in client portfolios. These include a strong record of proven success, a healthy balance sheet and shareholder-friendly management, among others. Finally, Investment Analyst/SELECT portfolio manager David Yepez discussed two promising areas of investment opportunity in 2019: autonomous vehicles and consumer genomics.

If you have any questions about recent market activity or your investment strategy, please consult your Exencial advisor. In case you missed the webinar, tune in here to access the recorded version.
