A strong business is only as good as its people. At Exencial, we pride ourselves in our talented and committed staff who go above and beyond every day to serve our clients. One particular employee who embodies Exencial’s commitment to excellent client service is Marshall Welke, Director of Operations.

Marshall wears multiple hats at Exencial, overseeing the operations, relationship management and IT teams across the firm’s various offices. From acting as the main point of contact for custodians to automating back-office IT processes, he brings an elevated level of enthusiasm to each aspect of his role.

Marshall was initially drawn to Exencial’s culture of transparency and authenticity. He says the firm truly puts the best interest of its clients and employees first. Every internal discussion and interaction is conducted in such a way that Exencial would be proud if a client walked in on a meeting. In addition, Marshall enjoys working at a company that’s on a positive growth trajectory, giving him the opportunity to learn new things he wouldn’t otherwise be exposed to at a standstill corporation.

Prior to joining Exencial in 2016, Marshall worked as a Senior Associate, Client Service Manager & Consultant at ISS (Institutional Shareholder Services), an MSCI company. Before that, he was the Strategic Sourcing Manager for an online retailer where he was responsible for writing, reviewing and negotiating contracts, payment terms and product pricing as well as managing supply partner relationships.

Marshall didn’t always intend to make a career in the financial services industry. In fact, he studied Communication & Sociology as an undergraduate college student at the University of Oklahoma with the intention of becoming a speech-language pathologist. He fell into finance by chance and quickly became fascinated by the different layers the field has to offer.

He went on to acquire a master’s degree in Business Administration in Finance & Energy from the University of Oklahoma and also completed the Lean Six Sigma Yellow & Green Belt certifications at the University of Oklahoma College of Engineering.

Outside of the office, Marshall is involved with the community and regularly volunteers for nonprofit organizations like Habitat for Humanity, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City Rescue Mission.

He enjoys camping in the mountains, playing golf, traveling both domestically and internationally and spending time with his wife, Ashley, and 11-month old son, Atlas. As a devout football fan, every fall you’ll find him cheering on his alma mater, the University of Oklahoma Sooners, and his hometown football team, the Denver Broncos.
