At Exencial, our work is built around people who take responsibility for their role and stay focused on serving clients well. This quarter, we’re highlighting Mason Cannefax, Investment Associate, based in Oklahoma City.
Mason studied finance at Oklahoma Christian University after beginning his coursework in accounting. After graduating, he built experience across several fields, including warehouse operations and commercial insurance. In insurance, he worked as an associate underwriter supporting commercial books of business. He also participated in a study abroad program that gave him an early global perspective on financial markets.
He joined Exencial a little over a year ago with the goal of building a long-term career in financial services. Since then, his role has continued to grow. Being an Investment Associate, Mason supports advisors by preparing investment proposals, assisting with retirement account documentation and producing performance reports for internal strategies. He also helps develop quarterly fact sheets and monthly equity reports that explain portfolio activity and investment decisions for clients.
As his role has grown, Mason has become more involved with the fixed income team. He supports portfolio managers with operational work and assists with client cases, including cash raises and allocation discussions. He enjoys the problem-solving side of the role and values being able to contribute across teams rather than being limited to a single set of tasks.
One project that stood out involved helping a client explore international residency options through a “golden passport” program. The request fell outside the firm’s standard services, but Mason took the initiative to research available options and guide the client through the process. His work helped the client identify Portugal as a strong fit, and the client has since relocated and settled into the lifestyle they were looking for. For Mason, seeing that outcome made the project especially meaningful and reinforced his belief that careful work behind the scenes can have a real impact on clients’ lives.
What Mason appreciates most about Exencial is the level of trust he’s been given early in his career. He values working in an environment where ideas are welcomed, growth is encouraged, and employees are supported as they take on new responsibilities. Being able to learn from experienced colleagues while contributing his own ideas has influenced how he approaches his work day to day.
Outside of the office, Mason stays active through recreational volleyball and pickleball leagues and enjoys spending time with friends and his girlfriend. He also takes part in a regular Bible study with a close group of friends and makes time to attend Oklahoma City Thunder games when he can.
