At Exencial, our team stands as our greatest asset, each member bringing unique backgrounds and skills that shape our client services. This quarter, we shine a spotlight on Jasen Wallace, CFP®, Wealth Advisor, based in our Austin, Texas office.
Jasen's academic journey began at Texas A&M University–Commerce (previously East Texas State University) as a political science major. After a mentor’s advice prompted him to explore business classes, Jasen discovered a natural affinity for finance. Upon graduation, Jasen decided to pursue a master’s degree at Texas Tech University.
During his time at Texas Tech, Jasen worked closely with Dr. Russell James, an authority on charitable planning and gifting, gaining invaluable research and practical experience. This mentorship sparked Jasen's interest in nonprofits, earning him a Graduate Certificate in Charitable Planning. His talent for counseling and communication flourished through his on-campus involvement in programs like the volunteer income tax assistance and Red to Black budgeting help. The richness of his educational experience even led him to extend his degree to teach a course on financial tools.
After earning his master’s degree in financial planning and passing the CFP® exam in 2012, Jasen began his professional career. He attended a career fair and secured a position as a paraplanner at Weinheimer Wealth Management. Over the past 12 years, he climbed the ranks to Director of Financial Planning. In these roles, he has been instrumental in standardizing client experiences and training new advisors.
Jasen's current role at Exencial involves helping clients tackle significant financial questions such as retirement savings, debt management, education funding, and Social Security timing. With over a decade of experience, he specializes in ensuring retirees do not outlive their income while minimizing tax liabilities. His expertise extends to equity compensation optimization and personalized retirement planning, always aiming to align clients' finances with their goals and values.
Following the merger with Weinheimer, Jasen’s favorite part about working for Exencial is the collaboration. Coming from a broker-dealer world where he had to juggle multiple roles, he now appreciates having specialized teams for marketing, PR, portfolio management, and trading. This support allows him to focus on being a great advisor, a role he is passionate about. The warm, appreciative feedback from clients, especially during tough times, reinforces his dedication to the work.
Outside of the office, Jasen enjoys playing the guitar, a hobby he picked up a year and a half ago, and spends time in his backyard garden with his wife and daughter. He is also actively involved in the community as President of the Young Men’s Business League, contributing to initiatives like the Austin Sunshine Camp, Austin Under 40, and the Austin Sunshine Run.
